Grab a liter of coke and some hot pockets and nail your butt down onto your seat. This one’s a kicker.
The 6th grade; a time when you receive many ‘firsts’ and explore new frontiers. My first science project, my first B (I believe it was in Social Studies, go figure), and my first time dealing with a really mean person, not a bully, but a person who wasn’t nice and always so touchy was in the 6th grade. Some people call this so called person a bit… well, you get the picture. It was also a last time for some things. 6th grade was my last grade in Elementary School, my last time when I could ‘take it easy’, and my last time with some first times in the same year.
Life was good. Good grades, good video games (Pokemon Stadium 2), and a good dog (no… I’m not referring to a specific member in my family; it was a real dog Cheryl, of course you wouldn’t know, Cheryl, because you didn’t take care of her, except maybe petting her, but that’s it). Nothing could go wrong… Something had to go wrong for this blog to go on and/or exist. Keep reading, troopers.
That year there was something I noticed that I didn’t notice in the years before the 6th grade. It was, you guessed it, a girl. The ‘girls have cooties’ phase was just about over after the 5th grade and I was ready (or thought I was) to begin to stride in this new… edge. This girl was everything a boy wanted her to be. She was pretty, smart, funny, nice, and fun to talk to and hang out with. It turns out that I never had the guts to ask her out (I wouldn’t even know where we would go. We were in the 6th grade, what could we do?). In the 7th grade, she moved away. The first and the last for now…
After the girl moved away, there were a lot more girls over at the high school. The girls may have been pretty, may have been smart, may have been kind, but none of them could top the girl back in the 6th grade. So, over time, when anyone would ask me who I liked, or who I would take to a dance, I said no one (some exceptions), because I seriously didn’t admire any girls at that time, and it was more fun going alone (you know who you guys are, rock on brothers, rock on). Well, it isn’t fun going alone in some cases.
Let’s fast forward to the present. Now I’m 16 years old and in the 11th grade. I have just moved to Alexandria, with no close friends nearby (3 hours doesn’t count). So I decided to get on MySpace and communicate with friends through there. So, as you can see, here I am. I grab a couple of my old yearbooks and flip through them, so I could be in touch with everyone I’ve been in contact with.
I see the girl again. Memories flood back into my lonely mind and my brain tries to process what I was doing at the time. The search brings back 1 entry. It had to be her, and it was. It was blissful; it was good to go back to those times, the times when I was wrong, and others were right, the times when I had no care in the world. And yes, it was her.
Sent her a message and confessed my crush from the 6th grade. A reply? Yes. Oh and here’s where fate gets a little crazy… she had a crush on me too. Yeah, imagine how I felt after I read that line. In the first few messages to each other, we talk about what we've been doing for the last few years, and what we're doing now. I find out that she lives in Equador, and she finds out that I live in Virginia. Not a very happy ending.
Yes, it is nice seeing her again, but I'll probably never see her again in person.
I don't think there's much more to tell. You can ask me questions if you'd like
